Not always to plan.....

Not having all the information you need to make your move as smooth as possible can lead to complications that could be factored out and today was a good example.

Our customer, had purchased a lathe on ebay, no problem with that he just needed to get it moved from County Durham to Lancashire and we were happy to help him out, so a trip across the M62, up the A1M and into Newton Aycliffe this morning.

The seller was all ready to get it moved, sitting on a pallet we made sure it was securly strapped and then, using a forklift slid it into the back of the van - 1100kgs of it, plus a few other bits and pieces.

A little chat with the seller, added some further straps to make sure there could be no movement and away we went, back down the A1M, Scotch Corner and across the A66 to Brough, over to the M6 and Junction 38, a simple journey that offers fantastic views, even in the snow showers today.

Down the M6 to Preston and onto the industrial estate where its new home is, all done in a couple of hours........now at this point it should have been a 5 minute job, slip the forklift in underneath, lift off, get paid and away.

Remember I said make sure you have all the information....the buyer was under the impression it wasnt that heavy and could be lifted off without the need for a forklift. So it ended up being nearly an hour as the customer enlisted the assitance of the guys in the next unit who luckily had a 3 ton hoist, using that and a variety of other lifting equipment we finally managed to get it off.

Large industrial equipment tends to be heavy, and anything on a pallet over 75kgs needs a mechanical aid, normally a forklift. If you dont have one, then have a chat with your neighbours and see if you can find one to borrow for the time it takes toget the job done.

When I travel to you, or the delivery location I share my location with you as the customer. It gives you not only my location but also my speed so you can work out a rough estimate of when I will arrive to get off loaded, so you can be ready - your welcome to call and confirm that estimated time. Then we can work together to make sure you have an easy delivery without complications and if it all then goes wrong for some reason, well thats called the embugarance factor that we just all live with.
