Why we all need to take a moment and think

Every day I am out in the road someone does somethig that endagers. themselves. me and other road users, sometimes with intent but mostly a slight lapse of concentration or by being distracted and lets be honest, we ALL have bad days.

For someone like me, its also more of a problem as people see a van with a trailer and they seem to be desperate to get in front of it, I could post a thousand videos where drivers have acted in a way that at best is careless and at worst outright dangerous, the last driver who did it, nearly lost control of their car and ended up snaking, all so they could pull off the main road onto a slip road in front of me and save themselves about 1 second.

Now all the action for this is in the first few moments, watch the car pulling out from the service station.......pulls towards the junction, stops, looks and then moves forward into my path. It is a momentary lapse of judgement on the drivers behalf but the consequnces could have been catastrophic at best, or at worse a thought from the driver that they need to getin front of me as Im going to slow him down, youll see that I roll past him and the roundabout in front, is a junction of the M90.

This is why I always travel within the speed limits, why I have cemeras fitted all round, why I take extra care to try and minimise the risks to my customers goods (I had a trailer with a £50,000 car on the back).

So, a little plea from me, I know you may have had a bad day, you could have lots of other worries in your life that you are thinking about....the kids are sick, you have financial worries, your partner is ill, your are not sleeping well, your worried about your job......its an endless list of reasons why you cant concentrate on the riskiest thing your going to do today - driving.

Driving is recogonised as one of the most hazardous work activities that can be done, its also one of the most hazardous personal activities you can undertake, yet, we all - no exceptions- think we are good drivers and that everyone else is at fault.

So, when your haviong a bad day, all those distracting worries that we have, if you can...stop, dont drive. it may save you, your loved ones or another party from being involved in something that will be life changing, or worse.
